About Our Stickers ๐Ÿง

The Ink ๐ŸŒˆ

Dye Ink

Most color printers are "inkjet" printers. These use dye inks, and that's perfectly fine ๐Ÿ‘.

The ink can be rather cheap, they do a great job especially on glossy paper, and as long as you take care to not put them in direct sunlight or other UV sources, they can last for quite some time.

Inkjet printers spray tiny droplets ๐Ÿ’ฆ of liquid ink onto paper to create an image.

However, the dye is water-soluble, so if the paper gets wet, blurring may happen.

These non-archival prints, when exposed to heat and sunlight can start deteriorating in 5 years or less, and we do not have a printer capable of making average-lasting stickers.

We use Pigment Ink ๐Ÿ’ช

We want our stickers and prints to last my good man! They must last a long time, longer than we will! โšฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜” (pls take care of our plants)

Apart from stickers we also make fine art prints ๐Ÿ–ผ, which again, must last! And fridge magnets ๐Ÿ˜….

But anyway, pigment inks are made up of solid particles suspended in a liquid. This offers insane longevity ๐Ÿ“…, water resistance ๐Ÿ’ง and the print is less prone to fading when exposed to light ๐Ÿ’ก๐ŸŒž having much better UV resistance than dye inks.

Colors are stable immediately after printing so we could face roll on the sheet (don't worry, we don't) and relatively insensitive ๐Ÿ˜ญ to environmental factors such as high intensity face rolling ๐Ÿ”„.

This makes pigment inks suitable for professional-level archival printing, especially for fine art prints and cool stickers, with deep blacks and colors that remain stable over time.

Their durability also makes them suitable for printing on textiles ๐Ÿ‘š or other applications where resilience is critical, such as outdoor stickers!

Since pigment ink is waterproof it's also lick proof ๐Ÿ‘…, though we don't recommend it neither to you nor to your ๐Ÿถ / ๐Ÿ˜ฝ / ๐Ÿ .

The pigment inks sit on top of the printed surface rather than inside it as dye-based inks do. This means that this ink is slightly easier scratched off, so if you face roll on them, please shave first.

Our printer is a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO 300, and it prints superbly ๐Ÿคฉ.

This quality comes at a higher price ๐Ÿ’ธ though due to the pigment inks being far more expensive than dye inks ๐Ÿ˜จ. However in the grand scheme of things we think quality ๐Ÿ’Ž > quantity ๐Ÿ’ฉ.

Also we could never beat factories that dish out 50 generic or AI generated stickers for 2$, not even with the eco tanks printers (dye ink printers that you refill with a bottle instead of buying a cartridge).

These archival prints can last between 40 to up to 300 years ๐Ÿ‘ด. However they also need an archival medium to print on, which can't really be found as self-adhesive for stickers. So we'd expect they will last a long time, but not 300 years ๐Ÿ˜‚.

The Materials ๐Ÿ“ฆ

We ordered a bunch of materials from multiple brands and tested them in extreme conditions: 50ยฐC (122ยฐF) in the sun, watered each day like a house plant, and stuck on plastic, metal, porous wall, and shiny wall. We also tested them in our freezer: -22ยฐC (122ยฐF). And in our dishwasher ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿคช.

We tried picking the best of the best, for different scenarios as they all have pros and cons.

Also video incoming soon with the documentation process of sticker abuse.

For example matte photography paper is great for journals, labeling the back of your laptop, and other indoor usage, and they're cheap. Meanwhile the vinyl is great for outdoor stuff while being a bit more expensive.

Face paper is the printed side, liner is the material you peel off and discard and recycle ๐Ÿ˜Š pls.

Vinyl

Vinyl, also known as PVC, is a durable material which can last between 5 to 10 years.

The vinyl stickers are easy to clean, do not absorb water, have great UV protection, and don't tear up when removed.

These stickers must be applied on a dry clean surface for maximum adhesion. While they are waterproof you should try to avoid submerging them in water, tea, soda, hot oil, or lava to keep them pristine for longer.

Removing these stickers (why would you?) can be done with minimum glue residue on the host item.

Chemical formula in which we notice that C = C, rather balanced:

Premium Glossy

Premium glossy vinyl sticker with SkyRanch.Life logo

This type of vinyl sticker is extremely resistant. It's great for sticking it to outdoor stuff like your bike, skateboard, a police car, etc. The cut can be a tiny bit dusty due to the nature of we don't really know. We try to clean them out well though ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Sometimes the pigment gets a funny edge, if it's visible from the distance of 3 eye-o-graphs ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ we do not ship it and it goes into the naughty box.

This is the most expensive material from the bunch that we use.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene, or PP for short (hehe short PP), is a plastic material used in the food labeling industry. It's resilience targets in particular oil, water, and gases, and with these powers combined our stickers are Captain PP.

Compared to vinyl, if you decide to remove it and replace it with another of our awesome stickers ๐Ÿ˜, the glue is more prone to leaving remnants on whatever it is you stuck it to.

Chemical formula, in comparison to vinyl this is pretty much one sided, with the top tipping the balance by having 3, the right bottom has 2, and then there's n from unknown:

Glossy

Glossy PP stickers have super vibrant colors, feel nice and slidy to the touch, and might temporarily blind you if the light hits it at a 23.73ยฐ angle. Less dusty than the Premium Glossy Vinyl, which is pretty cool; also the cut is cleaner.

Glossy Silvery Metallic

Polypropylene glossy silvery metallic sticker with SkyRanch.Life logo

Very weird and spacey. Has a metallic look to it, by the way, if you feel a metallic taste in your mouth you might be having a stroke. A bit of a bitch to peel the liner off and if you give up you can just use some random glue on the back of the liner instead ๐Ÿ’ฏ. Looks funny from different angles and under different light conditions.

Photography paper

Photography paper is high quality paper meant to reproduce colors accurately. It's thicker paper, and most have an extreme white color.

This is considered the least resilient from the bunch of the materials we use, however the satin one performed exceptionally mainly due to the resin coat it has.

Satin

These resin coated stickers have a great texture combined with awesome color fidelity and good resilience. It also feels rather rugged and stiff, giving it an emboss feel. We touch it and it makes us happy. It's our favorite sticker material. It's a middle ground between glossy and matte, stiff as in the morning, and very cleanly cut.
